Stitches

Here's a thumbnail I've made for a Daz+ stream, in which I'm talking to John from 3D Megaverse (aka Fugazi) about stitches and how to create them for Daz clothing. I wanted the image to say "a variety of stitches looking nice", which is a more difficult task than I had imagined. I had a deadline to meet, and my first attempt was a much wider shot I felt wasn't working for a small thumbnail (I've added it here for completion). Not only are the stitches less prominent than they needed to be, the geometry MD generated was insane (like 5M polys). I managed to render it in Blender.

My second attempt zoomed in much closer, making MD more performant. I added several types of top stitches, UV mapped my "garment" directly in MD and baked out the maps, then applied them in Daz Studio for a final render. Lighting and camera is always tricky on these pack-shot type renders, but with a little depth of field magic it started to look handsome. I added a small dust particle effect with Ultra Scatter to make it look like we're in a garment factory. The only bit of post production I did was the colour. I had a cooler and a warmer one, and couldn't quite decide which one to use, so I blended them together for the perfect balance.

Enjoy!
